Vegetable Semolina Upma


Vegetable upma/ semolina upma is a staple Indian breakfast, It is one if the easiest breakfast can be made in a jiffy. You can add any choice of vegetables to this upma. Use ghee/ butter when you temper it will give nice aroma.

  1. Roasted Semolina - 2 Cups
  2. Carrot - 100g
  3. Cabbage - 100g
  4. Green Peas (Frozen) - 50g
  5. Onion (medium) - 1
  6. Coconut Milk - 50ml
  7. Butter - 2 TBS
  8. Curry Leaves - 1 Sprig
  9. Red Dry Chillies (whole) - 4
  10. Mustard seeds - 1/8 TSP
  11. Urad Dhal - 1/8 TSP
  12. Channa Dhal - 1/8 TSP
  13. Water - 4 Cups
  14. Salt - 1/8 TSP or to taste.
  1. Heat a medium heavy bottom pan melt the butter.
  2. Add mustard seeds, Urad , Channa dhals, curry leaves and dry chilies.
  3. Saute for 30 seconds. Add the sliced onion and saute until onions starts to brown.
  4. Add the cabbage, carrot and cook for 2-3 minutes.
  5. Add the frozen green peas saute for 5 minutes in a medium flame.
  6. Add 4 cups of water and add the salt.
  7. Now pour the coconut milk and stir well.
  8. Boil the mixture for 6-8 minutes.
  9. When the mixture starts to boil add the roasted rava and mix well with other ingredients.
  10. Cook for another 2-3 minutes while stirring.
  11. Serve immediately.
  1. You can serve this Rava upma with spoonful of sugar.
  2. Even kids will love this dish.
  3. If you have any health concerns you can eat as it is.
